Evelyn Kemeh, the mother of the 11-year-old girl whose father attempted to exploit her for Sikaduro, has spoken out.
Today, the woman talked to GTV, the state channel, about the incident and its consequences.
According to the mother, the father does not live with them but does visit the girl on occasion.
She claims that the father, Evans Oppong, has a close relationship with his daughter and that he organized the greatest birthday party in her school for her last year, which is still the talk of the school.
On Wednesday, the father contacted the mother to tell her that he would be heading to the kids’ school on Thursday to pick her up and take her to a seamstress to get her measured for a dress.
The father then inquired about her birth date, which was Thursday, indicating that she is Yaa.
According to the mother, the father’s request for her birth date was strange, so she spoke with friends, who urged her not to allow the man to come for the child on Thursday.
When her daughter returned from school on Wednesday afternoon, her mother says she told her about how her father planned to pick her up on Thursday.
She then informed her daughter how her father inquired about her birth date to determine if she was truly born on Thursday.
According to the mother, her 11-year-old daughter replied by saying that he probably wants to use her for Sikaduro, but they laughed it off.
Fortunately, the father did not go looking for her on Thursday but instead arrived at the residence on Friday morning to remove her.
He informed them that he was taking her to a seamstress to get her measurements taken.
Because of her doubts, the mother instructed her daughter not to sleep in the car on the way to the Seamstress, not to drink or eat anything, and to scream when the alleged Seamtress attempted to undress her.
On Friday afternoon, the police phoned the mother and told her that she was required at Oyibi Police Station because the father of her daughter had been detained for attempting to exploit their daughter for money rituals.
