Madina MP, Francis Sosu breaks silent after he was chased by the police

Francis Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, has disclosed that the police wanted to apprehend him via illegal means, which is why he rushed away.

The scenario unfolded as people of Ayimensa, Kweiman, Danfa, and La Nkwantanang in the Greater Accra Region’s Madina Constituency clashed with police on Monday, and when police sought to arrest the MP for orchestrating the demonstration, the demonstrators covered him.

To press home their need for better roads in the neighborhood, the MP and the youth organized a Fix Our Roads protest.

The protest began at Damfa and continued via Kweiman and Ayi Mensah Toll.

Francis Sosu told Atinka FM that the way the police wanted to arrest him had caused problems with his car.

The police were determined, according to the lawmaker, to arrest him in an unconstitutional manner.

“The stalemate that occurred was the time the Police were attempting to physically arrest me and if that had not happened that would have been the end of the demonstration. Even when the youth resisted and placed me in my car, the police who were bent on arresting me surrounded my car.

Obviously what they were doing was lawless since Article of the 117 of the constitution says the Police has no right to arrest a member of Parliament in the line of his duty,” Lawyer Sosu told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.

When asked if he was doing parliamentary duties during the protest, lawyer Sosu said yes, adding that he was participating in the protest in his role as a member of Parliament.
