Winnie Nyar Kasagam lost her temper and picked up a large stone to avenge her lover’s football injury.
The shocking incident occurred on February 13th, 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Some football fans tried to jump over the fence during an FKF Premier League match between Gor Mahia and Vihiga Bullets FC.
Lawrence Odhiambo, Gor Mahia’s head of security, is said to have been caught up in the melee between fans trying to enter the pitch.
Winnie Nyar Kasagam’s boyfriend, George Odinga, was one of three seriously injured in the melee.
Winnie, a resident of Huruma Estate in Nairobi, told The Standard she carried a stone to get revenge on behalf of her boyfriend, who was injured.
“I am calm. Winnie, the stone-carrier at the stadium, is not the Winnie everyone knows. That day, my heart ached. When the heartaches, the mind and body respond, “when the heartaches,” Winnie told journalist Stephen Mukangai of the Standard Group.
“My boyfriend was beaten. It enraged me because my lover is the breadwinner in our relationship.
“Initially, he was thought to be dead. Just as I arrived at Kasarani Stadium, I learned that Odinga had been seriously assaulted. When I arrived at the stadium, he was unconscious.
“I was enraged. I picked up a stone and went looking for the assailant of my husband.
“When I got to the assailant, I was shocked to see a familiar face. I knew I had anger issues. So I dropped the stone to avoid making a mistake,” Winnie said.
