Ghanaians have drawn a battle line between Otto Addo and Chris Hughton in the campaign to coach the Black Stars.
The GFA and government are looking for a top-tier coach who can rebuild the team from the ground up as their quest for international glory and World Cup qualification loom in the distance.
Chris Hughton, the former Nottingham Forest manager, might make a surprise comeback to management after being out of the game for several months.
According to reports and images, former Premier League manager Chris Hughton met with President Akufo-Addo as the race for the Black Stars coaching job heats up.
The 63-year-old has spent the last week in Ghana, where he is alleged to have held negotiations about becoming Milovan Rajevac’s successor.
While the Ghana Football Association (GFA) likes Addo, the government sees Hughton as the guy who can restore the national team’s glory days.
On Angel FM, Ghana’s Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, assured him of the job.
“Chris Hughton is a coach who knows how to build with average materials and that’s Ghana’s situation now. Our materials are not good so we need Chris to weld. Otto Addo is just a second coach for Dortmund,” the legislator told Accra-based Angel FM.
According to a report by 3news, Hughton met with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, where he was “assured of becoming Ghana’s next coach.”
The report adds that the President “threw his weight behind” the former West Ham United and Newcastle United boss to rebuild the Black Stars.
