“I want to stop doing music, I don’t make enough money to support my family”- Kumi Guitar

Kumi Guitar has acknowledged that he doesn’t see any light at the end of his musical tunnel and that he occasionally considers giving up completely.

In an interview with Showbiz Xtra on Happy FM, the Brown Sugar singer stated that his current situation, as well as that of other GH musicians, is nothing to write home about.

Kumi believes that adequate institutions should be built within the music industry so that performers can enjoy the fruits of their labor, since things now appear bleak for him and other artists, given how experienced musicians die as paupers despite their great accomplishments and longevity.

“When I observe the lives and living situations of our old musicians, I fear for my own safety. Some claim that they did not live decent and meaningful lives or that they refused to invest their money, but this is incorrect. They can’t fall that low and be broke in their old age if the mechanisms are working.”

If the systems had worked, he claims, the late Nana Ampadu would not have died in such a horrible manner. “Nana Ampadu was still working, but let’s take a look at how he was doing. This makes me concerned about my own safety.”

“Sometimes it gets tough, and I wonder if I should stop playing music or not,” Kumi explained. It can be difficult at times. We have to look after our families and children.”

According to his estimates, over 98 percent of artists are depressed, and “while we are smiling on the outside, we are dying on the inside.” We don’t make a living off of music, and the few that do don’t make a living off of it either. People in the music industry, both producers and musicians, are suffering.”

“Our legends are not getting honored for their efforts,” he said.
