I used to sell charcoal, porridge, and beans so I can pay my school fees – Celestine Donkor reveals

Celestine Donkor has opened up about some of the challenges she faced as a child, including the fact that she had to engage in street hawking in order to make a living.

According to the gospel singer, her parents sold their wares on the street because they lacked the financial security necessary to provide for the entire family and, as a result, sold things on the street.

Celestine who was a guest in an interview on Prime Morning on Joy Prime stated that; “at a point, we had to survive by ourselves at a very young age; you have to think of paying your fees.”

“So, when you come back from school, you need to think of what to sell and how to raise money for the following morning. I’ve sold corn, charcoal, ‘kookoo’ (porridge),” she recalled.

“As a young girl, one of the prayers I constantly prayed and asked God was, ‘Why didn’t you bless my parents to take care of me? It was a prayer I always prayed in a deep place.

“I don’t understand why my parents are alive and I have to still be like an orphan in someone’s house. It is different when your parents are dead,” the celebrated singer explained.
