“I still go to town to buy my own waakye”- Humble Black Sherif reveals

The ‘Oil In My Head’ hitmaker said on TV3’s Road to the that he kept himself grounded by separating his professional character, “Black Sherif,” from his everyday personality, “Mohammed Ismail Sherif.”

“I keep this thing in my mind,” he explained.

“To me, maybe, you guys see me Black Sherif.”

However, he added that he views himself as both and that this perspective helps him be grounded and free to be himself even while on the streets.

According to the 21-year-old, he still buys his favorite street food from his favorite vendors and sometimes receives it for free from vendors who remember him.

“People still see me at the waakye spot,” Blacko told the hosts “I would take my money ready to pay, but Amalia would decline,”

This perspective of being able to return to zero and not fearing it has helped Black Sherif to remain modest and level-headed despite his rapid climb.

“I can go back to zero and I don’t fear being zero,” he added

Black Sherif, who won Best New Artiste at the last VGMAs, has received nine nominations for the 2019 awards ceremony.
