I prayed for a miracle to happen in my pregnancy test result – Poloo speaks on jail encounter (Video)
Akuapem Poloo, Rosemond Alade Brown, has revealed her thoughts on the day she was ordered by the court to take a pregnancy test.
In April 2021, an Accra Circuit Court judge, Christiana Cann, ordered a pregnancy test on Akuapem Poloo before her sentencing.
This after she pled guilty to three counts of publishing nude pictures of her son, aged 7.
Samson Lardy Anyenini, a lawyer and journalist at the time, explained that the law requires a judge to order a pregnancy test for a woman convicted before passing a sentence.
He said the pregnancy test would determine Poloo’s fate, and a positive result would result in a non-custodial sentence rather than a jail term.
To protect both mother and unborn child, the law requires judges to sentence pregnant convicts to non-custodial sentences or to sentences that are suspended until a later date. He said on Newsfile.
Affirming her feelings after the judge ordered her to take a pregnancy test, the popular Ghanaian socialite said:
The judge ordered me to take a pregnancy test the day before my sentencing and detained me afterward. That’s when I knew I’d be sentenced because they usually want to know how long you’ve been pregnant. The judge’s instructions broke me. I wished I had a doctor who could fake my pregnancy test, but I didn’t. I’m a loner who never had a personal lawyer. She said she didn’t have a cop or a doctor friend.
Poloo described her first visit to the Nsawam prison after her ‘negative’ pregnancy test result earned her a 90-day sentence.
“As I approached the Nsawam prison, my spirit left me. I was devastated and pale, wondering how I got here.”
