“I date only fraud boys, you don’t have money”- Lady tells Uber Driver
A Nigerian woman in her early 20s has caused controversy by openly admitting that she exclusively dates internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Sakawa or Yahoo Boys,” because they can financially support her.
This revelation came to light during a blind date when the woman dismissed an Uber driver who expressed interest in her, citing his monthly earnings of just over Ghc 1,700 as insufficient to meet her financial expectations.
She proudly boasted about her expensive wig, which costs Ghc 1,426, suggesting that men with lower incomes cannot provide for her adequately. This attitude reflects a growing trend in modern dating, where material possessions and financial wealth play a significant role in partner selection.
It signifies a shift in dating dynamics, with some women prioritizing monetary gains over emotional connections or compatibility.
The rise of materialistic dating can be attributed to factors such as the influence of social media, materialistic values promoted by popular culture, and economic disparities.
With the prevalence of social media, individuals are exposed to extravagant lifestyles and material possessions, leading to a desire to replicate such standards of living. As a result, some women may see dating as a means to acquire wealth and enhance their social standing.
