Following his recent marriage to Moroccan Sara Bella, Thomas Partey changed his name to Yakubu after converting to Islam.
Despite the name change, the midfielder will continue to be known as Partey when representing Arsenal.
In addition, when in action, the 28-year-old will wear Thomas on the back of his shirt.
Partey explained his intention to change his name as follows:
“I have a girl I love, I know my side chics will leave me but it’s no problem.“
“I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day it is the same thing. I am already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu”.
Following his marriage to Bella, Partey has dedicated himself even more to Islam, adopting the name Yakubu.
Partey’s new advancement comes after he was bestowed with a chieftaincy title in his hometown of Odumase Krobo, Ghana.
Partey was granted the title of “Mahefalor,” which means “area defender,” after he helped the Black Stars of Ghana qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by knocking out the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
