I can’t be providing for someone’s child – Man tells police after killing his 4-year-old stepson

Police in Jigawa State have arrested Ibrahim Adamu for allegedly hacking his four-year-old stepson to death.
The incident occurred in the hamlet of Unguwar Dinya, Roni LGA, Northwest State.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesman for the Jigawa State Police Command, announced the announcement in a statement on Friday.
Adam stated that the 50-year-old suspect has now been arraigned in court.

“On 8/8/2023 at about 2130 hrs., ugly information was received from Unguwar Dinya village in Roni LGA of Jigawa State, that at about 1942 hrs., a four-year-old boy named Salmanu Umar was seen covered in blood with a deep cut on his throat,” according to the statement.

“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives under the direction of Divisional Police Officer Roni Division hurried to the crime scene and transported the victim to General Hospital Kazaure for treatment; he later passed away while receiving treatment.”

He stated that the probe led to the arrest of Adamu of Unguwar Dinya village, Roni LGA, the deceased’s mother’s spouse.

Shiisu stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime because he got resentful of the child, claiming that he could not be responsible for someone else’s child.

Additionally, he claimed that the suspect acknowledged that his initial attempt to kill the child was unsuccessful because the deceased’s mother reported him to her in-law.
