Madam Gifty Pomaa, the Headmistress of MalamKrom L/A Primary School in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, has reportedly ceased teaching and learning activities due to her missing GHC 2,000 at her bungalow.
According to a report by Kumasi-based Angel FM, the Headmistress shut down the school after alleging that some kids stole her money.
The event occurred on Monday, March 13, 2023, and no active teaching or learning has taken on as of Monday, March 20, 2023.
According to Mr. Ankomah Kennedy, Chairman of the School Management Council (SMC), the Headmistress made the decision unilaterally without engaging with other stakeholders in the community.
Madam Gifty Pomaa also halted school feeding program operators from preparing meals for the children during the week and claimed that normality might be restored provided she found her money.
She also reportedly threatened to fire any instructor who disagreed with her choice.
Some instructors, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told an Angel FM reporter that the Headmistress had told them not to teach until the schoolchildren paid back the stolen money.
The issue was reported to the District Education Director, who called a meeting with SMC to address the standoff.
