After years of estrangement, a man claiming to be the father of Ghanaian actor and comedian Kofi Adu, commonly known as Agya Koo, has stepped forward to make amends.
Former COCOBOD member Kwasi Bediako disclosed that he was the actor’s biological father.
According to the actor’s estranged father, also known as Agya Koo, the actor’s mother, and father reportedly had an adulterous connection in the early 1960s at the now-defunct Meridian Hotel in Tema.
He explained his absence from their lives by stating that after she told him of the conclusion of their meeting, Agya Koo’s mother vanished, leaving no indication of their location.
He said that he had no clue Agya Koo was his kid until he saw him on television lately.
“I only heard that she had given birth and named him Kofi Adu, only for me to see him on television as Agya Koo. I just knew that he was my son because of certain characteristics and traits he exhibits,” he said
While Mr. Bediako’s accusations have yet to be proven, they have attracted a lot of attention and conjecture on social media.
When asked why he had waited so long to reveal his identity, the elderly man said that he had avoided the meeting because he was shy.
“If I met him today, I’ll jump and hug him as my son but I’ve never reached out because I was shy and afraid. I did not want it to look like I was chasing him because of his pedigree in life,” he disclosed.
Mr. Bediako’s shocking discoveries have sparked a flurry of internet speculation, including the location of Agya Koo’s mother and the circumstances that led to her parenting Agya Koo as a single mother.
Previously, the veteran actor had spoken out on a radio station in the Ashanti area to refute a 50-year-old lady who claimed to be his biological mother.
In response, he said, “My mum died 7 years ago…”I’m not familiar with that lady.”
Others have questioned the situation, wondering whether Agya Koo was aware of his biological father’s presence.
He has previously said that he lived in Asantewaa, a neighborhood of Accra Newtown, where he worked as a cobbler.
