He is a hero: a truck driver praised for his bravery in rescuing eight people from a burning bus.
Sirizani Butau, a truck driver from Zimbabwe, has been praised a hero after rescuing eight people from a flaming bus, despite suffering injuries in the process.
Following an accident on the Harare-Mutare highway in Zimbabwe on December 24, Sirizani Butau leaped in to save lives.
The accident, which involved a head-on collision between a tanker truck and a bus, caused the bus to catch fire, trapping people inside.
Sirizani, who happened to be nearby, reacted quickly, putting his own safety and life at risk.
He was seriously injured while rescuing passengers. He is presently undergoing treatment at the hospital, and contributions are flooding in for him.
Meanwhile, the 8 people he pulled out were the only survivors. And over four people have been confirmed dead in the accident -according to the Zimbabwe police force.
Estimates are that if it hadn’t been for Sirizani’s bravery, there would have been a lot more casualties, with the worst-case scenario being no survivors.
Zimbabweans have praised Sirizsni on social media, praising him as a hero and expressing willingness to give to him.
