This devastating event took place on Wednesday, resulting in Sharif sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the valiant attempts to rescue him, Sharif tragically succumbed to his injuries at around 2:20 p.m.

The heart-wrenching news was officially announced during an afternoon press conference held by authorities. It was disclosed that Sharif had been employed as a transportation security officer (TSO) at Newark Liberty International Airport since 2006, as confirmed by the Transportation Security Administration.

Shareef revealed that he had a conversation with Sharif about the duties and responsibilities of imams when he was elected. During this conversation, Shareef also provided Sharif with a historical background of the masjid where he converted to Islam many years ago.

Shareef informed reporters that Sharif had previously been attacked months ago, also during the morning prayer. However, in that incident, Sharif was able to disarm the attacker and gain control of the gun. Shareef mentioned that the police are currently investigating to determine if there is any connection between the two incidents.
