Destiny Etiko, a Nollywood actress, says she has achieved great success in the showbiz industry only through hard work and dedication to building her own distinct brand.
Destiny denied in a recent interview that she was romantically involved with certain wealthy men, without whom she would not have risen to her current position in the industry.
“Go and collect money from men if it is easy for men to give money.” I work, I make money and some people like me.
“I recently signed an endorsement agreement with a Chinese company that sells sanitary pads and baby diapers.” People will say that if I achieve something tomorrow, it was given to me by men. Allow them to continue speaking.
Even if I don’t achieve anything, the same people will say that despite all of the films I’ve been in, I haven’t done anything for myself. I’m not going to take it seriously.”
“My mother, Eucharia Etiko, started acting in 2004,” the 32-year-old actress said, recalling how her mother influenced her decision to join the industry.
She did not play major roles, and her acting career lasted only three and a half years because it was difficult for her to work on set and then return home at nite to care for her family.
‘When we were on vacation, my mother would ask me to accompany her and hold her bag whenever she was shooting.
I followed her three times and appeared in a few cameo roles. I had minor roles as an adult as well, but it wasn’t until 2012 that I got a better role. “2015 was a watershed moment for me because I began receiving calls on a regular basis from people who wanted to cast me in their films.”
She went on to say that her childhood was difficult. “Growing up was not easy,” she said. My father was a successful headmaster, and at one point, he worked as a treasurer for a firm where he was accused of theft after the money he was asked to take to the bank was stolen by armed robbers who attacked him on his way.
It was a problem because we had to move from our flat to a ‘public’ house. My mother had stopped acting, and we had begun to live off the profits of the shop my father had opened for her.”
