Not all heroes wear capes; some are fathers who would sacrifice their own lives for the sake of their children.
Ray Lucas of Michigan and his wife Shi’Ann Brown walked to the gas station around the corner on July 16, 2021, and spent less than 15 minutes there before returning home. When they drew close to their home, they were taken aback when they found the whole area on fire and spreading rapidly.
Ray’s mother and niece stood there in shock, unable to act.
Ray’s two daughters, Milan and Malasya, 18-month-old twins, were still inside the home, asleep in the basement. Ray did what he needed to do since the flames were spreading swiftly and time was running short.
In an effort to rescue his children, he entered the blazing building. He couldn’t see his hands in front of his eyes because the smoke was so dense.
Moments thereafter, the brave father emerged, cradling the children in his arms.
In an interview with Fox 2, he said “I just knew I had to get my babies out. That’s what went through my mind.”
He and his children were admitted to the hospital and spent time in the intensive care unit. Malaysa’s health was more serious than Milan’s, but she is currently doing better and is still healing.
Ray became temporarily blind, and physicians are still amazed that his eyesight was not entirely gone. Unfortunately, he is unable to return to work owing to his injuries.
The family lost their home and all they had, and medical costs are still piling up. As a result, several of their family members have put up a GoFundMe page. The objective was to raise $40,000, and $475,000 has been raised thus far.
