Fake Soldier Arrested With His Gαng Members In Northern Region For Robbery (Video)
According to police sources, the five suspects, including a guy dressed in a military camouflage uniform, were caught for stealing a 2012 Toyota Camry from its owner at gunpoint.
Police also seized a G3 rifle and a handgun, as well as military uniforms and voter ID cards.
However, in response to the incident, the Ghana Armed Forces’ Acting Director of Public Relations, Commander Andy La-Anyane, confirmed that the suspect is not a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces, and voiced concern about the rising incidence of impersonation by civilians.
“The Ghana Armed Forces’ attention has been attracted to many videos and photographs on various social media platforms of the arrest of a vehicle snatching gang at Buipe alleged to have assaulted and taken a car from a Tamale victim.” One of the suspects is shown in the videos and photos wearing a military camouflage uniform and has been labeled variably as a member of the Ghana Armed Forces.”
“We would want to say unequivocally that the suspect is not a member of the Ghana Armed Forces.” The Armed Forces is concerned about an increase in civilian impersonation, either by donning military uniforms or by posting bogus images of themselves as military personnel in order to scam unsuspecting Ghanaians. “
Commander Andy La-Anyane blamed the increase on certain vendors’ illicit sales of military uniforms and military design equipment, saying such behavior is detrimental to national security.
The Ghana Armed Forces also pledged to work with the Ghana Police Service to identify the source of the military uniforms involved in the event and to put an end to the unlawful sale of military uniforms across the country.
“Ghanaians should feel confident in providing information to security officials in order to halt this trend.”
It also cautioned the public to be cautious when interacting with those posing as military officials.
