“Don’t Sleep With Lecturers In Exchange For Grades” – Prof. David Essumang Sends Warning to University Girls
Vice Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University, Professor David Kofi Essumang, has issued a warning to female students at the University not to sleep with lecturers in order to improve their academic performance.
He gave the speech at the university’s 28th matriculation, where he addressed both parents and students.
He assured students that the university administration will do everything in its power to ensure that those who have suffered sexual assault or harassment on campus would be given the justice they deserve.
“Everybody here has his own rights and never give in to pressure for either marks or money. It is not allowed. If you encounter such problems look for my office and report that to me personally. We have to weed out all the bad nuts amongst us,” professor Essumang is reported to have said.
He then lamented the university’s housing situation, calling on the government and the ministry of education to help finish some of the unfinished projects.
In several universities in Ghana and elsewhere in Africa, students often barter sexual favors for better grades.
In 2021, a BBC undercover investigation uncovered widespread sexual misconduct between male faculty and female students throughout a number of schools in Ghana, Nigeria, and elsewhere in Africa.
