Israeli Man Arrested in Uganda for Killing Wife Over Alleged Infidelity
An Israeli man, Raed Wated, has been arrested in Uganda after confessing to police that he murdered his wife, Monica Nabukenya. The shocking crime was driven by Wated’s discovery, through a DNA test, that he was not the biological father of their 6-month-old daughter.
According to reports, the police in Mpigi District arrested Wated on Sunday, July 16, 2023, on suspicion of murdering his wife. Relatives had alerted the authorities about Nabukenya’s disappearance, leading investigators to a septic pit where her decomposing corpse was found. The pit’s opening had been deliberately sealed with metal bars, forcing the police to break them open.
Ugandan media sources have cited police and officials from the Kalagala Village, where Wated and Nabukenya lived, stating that the couple had been having problems due to Wated’s suspicions of his wife’s infidelity. In an effort to confirm his doubts, Wated decided to subject their daughter to a DNA test, which revealed that he was not her biological father. The couple also had a 5-year-old child together.
Upon receiving the negative DNA test results, Wated returned home and confronted his wife. The situation escalated, leading him to make the horrifying decision to kill her. He then disposed of her body by dumping it in a septic tank within their compound and partially covering it with soil.
During the interrogation process at Kayabwe Police Station, detectives asked Wated to lead them to his home. To their horror, they were immediately hit by the stench of a decomposed body upon arrival. After searching the premises, they discovered Nabukenya’s remains in the septic tank. Wated eventually confessed to the murder, attributing it to his wife’s alleged infidelity and stating that such actions were considered an abomination in their culture.
Dauda Hirigi, the Katonga Regional Police commander, confirmed the incident on July 19, describing how Wated reconstructed the murder for investigators. “He confessed that he killed his wife because what she did – to sire a child with another man – is an abomination in their culture,” Were stated.
