Evans Kofi Ackah Mensah, an actor, and Eric Mensah, a bus conductor, have been granted bail of GHC100,000.00 each with three sureties each. The two are jointly accused of conspiring to commit robbery and attempting to commit a crime against an electrician, Francis Ameza.
The prosecution alleges that on May 30, 2023, at approximately 7:30 pm, the complainant was walking home after work when he was approached by Evans, who was riding an unregistered Royal 150 motorbike.
Eric, the pillion rider, attempted to snatch the complainant’s Apple iPhone XR mobile phone, but the complainant resisted and called for help. The accused persons then fled on their motorbike but crashed into a moving Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by the Court presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah.
The Court directed that two of the sureties should be justified by movable or immovable property and that the prosecution should file and serve all witness statements and disclosure before the next adjourned date. The matter has been adjourned to July 3, 2023.
It is important to note that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. While the allegations against the accused persons are serious, it is up to the prosecution to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
