Christian Atsu played football with prisoners – Ghana Prisons Service reveals

Vitalis Aiyeh, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, has claimed that late Black Stars footballer Christian Atsu not only supported inmates but also had fun with them in order to keep them happy.

Unfortunately, the former Chelsea footballer was a victim of the tragic earthquake that struck Turkey last month, killing many people.

Before Atsu was laid to rest over the weekend, a prison officer who witnessed much of the footballer’s philanthropic gestures towards the vulnerable said that, in addition to advocating for and paying for the release of petty offenders, Atsu also offered jerseys to the inmates so they could play football.

“He actually came to the prisons with other partners to play football with the inmates. He brought them jerseys because one of the best ways to make sure the prisoners are always calm is to give him them entertainment and keep them active and Atsu found a way.

“I’m sure he was trying to get talents that he could support if they get out and we have a good number of them. In fact, anytime these inmates play football, there were very energetic and still are,” Aiyeh told TV3 on Ghana Tonight.

Atsu’s last burial ceremonies, performed on Friday at the State House, drew a number of luminaries, including his former Black Stars teammates.
