A woman named Gifty Twumasi owned a plot of land in front of her house in Achimota Mile 7.
That plot of land was utilized as a taxi rank. Because they previously knew the site was reserved, the taxi drivers engaged filed a lawsuit against a private developer when he attempted to develop it.
After failing to halt the private developer, the taxi drivers sought aid from Captain Smart.
Captain Smart used his clout and access to the media to bring the attention of the Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Kwesi Amoako-Atah, who then halted the project.
According to the police report, Captain Smart was compensated with GH10,000 by Gifty Twumasi and the taxi drivers.
Captain Smart then unsuccessfully led the party to visit the Minister. The gang then presented him cash GH25,000 to hand to the Minister, which Captain Smart verified but said was Gh10,000.
However, the CID stated that Captain Smart faces charges of defrauding under false pretenses and taking or offering bribes to corrupt a public officer.
According to the authorities, an investigation is being conducted in order to prosecute the journalist.
