Bishop Obinim and his driver in trouble with the police as they incur a fine of GH¢1,200; see what happened.

Bishop Daniel Obinim, the Founder of the International God’s Way Church, and his chauffeur were fined GH 1,200 for illegally utilizing strobe lights and sirens.

On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, the Akropong Magistrate Court imposed a fine on the preacher.
Bishop Obinim and his driver, Eric Kofi Agyeman, were caught on camera driving a Toyota Landcruiser equipped with strobe lights and a siren in violation of Road Traffic Regulation 74 (1) of 2012 LI 2180.

The driver, Eric Kofi Agyeman, and the vehicle’s owner, Bishop Daniel Obinim, were both arrested after a police inquiry based on the camera footage.

After that, the two were sent to the Akropong Magistrate Court.

They were also ordered to remove any unapproved strobe lights and sirens from the vehicle by the court.
The strobe lights and sirens were removed under the supervision of the police.

“We’re pleading with car owners to cease installing unauthorized strobe lights and sirens on their vehicles.” According to the police, car owners who break the law will be prosecuted.

In Ghana, there is a rising practice among drivers, particularly SUV owners, to use sirens to weave through traffic, creating public inconvenience while also gaining an unfair advantage over other road users.

It is, however, illegal to deploy these strobe lights and sirens without first obtaining legal permission.
The police have promised to crack down on drivers who use sirens illegally on several occasions.

A fine of not more than 25 penalty units or a period of imprisonment of not more than 30 days, or both, is imposed on violators of the traffic rule.
