GES to cancel BECE and WASSCE due to the new educational reform
Ghana’s Ministry of Education has detailed measures aimed at transforming the country’s education system.
The revisions will result in the abolition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) administered to final-year Junior High School students in order to gain admission to Senior High School.
The BECE will be phased out in favor of a placement examination for students entering SHS 1.
For the first year of Senior High School, pupils will take just basic subjects/programs.
After SHS 2, students will pick their professional options from vocational education, technical training, business, the arts, and science, upon completion of which they will get a certificate.
