A military officer who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for defilement recounts his tragic experience.
According to the officer, he enlisted in the military in Tamale in 2002 and even attained the fourth rank of Corporal. He stated that it was his desire to become a soldier and that after graduating from high school, his uncle, who was also a military official, assisted him in enlisting in the military.
The officer stated that he had been through a lot; he was falsely accused of defiling a female Captain’s daughter who was a student in his class – as he was also teaching part-time at a model school.
The mother of the victim, according to the ex-convict, was also a good friend of his; on occasion, he took her to whatever location she desired.
The man revealed that he later discovered the lady was interested in him but turned her down since he saw the woman as her mother. This subtly sparked tension between them.
The military man later detailed how the captain had a fall out with her daughter which led to the woman sending her daughter to the village. The fallout eventually lead to the woman falsely assuming him of defiling her child.
One Sunday morning in 2011, the police arrived at his residence and detained him, and upon inquiring on the basis for his detention, the officers informed him that he had been accused of defiling the 16-year-old girl.
He was subsequently brought before a judge and condemned to 30 years in jail.
