Abdulrahim Dangana, a Nigerian man, has been arrested for impersonating a gay man on social media in order to entice victims to send him nude images, which he then uses to blackmail them.
The defendant is an internet scammer who preys on gays online, according to information sighted by Bestshowbiz.com on Instablog9ja.
He reportedly used the identities RYAN, DAVE, FRANK, and ERIC to register on a gay/bisexual hook-up app and a website.
According to the EFCC, he used phony profiles to create love ties with LGBT people, and after establishing what looks to be a genuine relationship with his victims, he persuades them to send him nude photos, which he then uses to blackmail and extort them using gift cards and bitcoins.
“Between January and September 2021, in Kaduna, you allegedly obtained the total sum of $8,420.00 from innocent victims when you falsely presented yourself as a white homosexual man on an online application and in the assumed character blackmailed them that you will expose them to their families and loved ones which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act,” the one count charge reads.
The suspect, however, pled not guilty to the accusation when it was read to him, according to Instablog9ja.
Nasiru Salele, the prosecutor, sought the court to set a trial date after his plea, but Solomon Otuwaga, the defense attorney, urged the court to release his client on bond.
Following that, Justice Khobo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1,000,000.00 and one surety in the same sum who must be a Kaduna resident with a valid form of identification.
The hearing has been rescheduled for December 2, 2021.
