“What DJ switch is doing is also child labour, she is too young to work as a DJ”- DJ Ashmen
DJ Switch is considered one of Ghana’s most prized assets, but not all people see her that way.
Some feel she is too young for the type of exposure she is getting.
DJ Ashmen, a well-known Ghanaian disc jockey, has criticized the young age at which DJ Switch, Erica Tandoh, was introduced to her career, calling it child labour.
DJ Ashmen believes the 12-year-old disc jockey should not have been introduced to a job that needs night work at such a young age.
DJ Switch should be given more time to gather experience and expertise before being awarded Best DJ of the Year 2019 and Young DJ of the Year 2020, according to DJ Ashmen.
He attacked the Ghana DJ Awards’ voting mechanism, suggesting that winners should be chosen simply on the basis of their expertise, allowing the right individuals to win.
DJ Ashmen told Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment:
“She may get the most votes and thus win automatically. The Ghana DJ Awards are a good example of how not to judge a DJ’s success. I feel people can make a difference by looking at the person’s experience rather than voting. “
