Former Asante Kotoko Player, Joseph Amoako returns to Ghana after escaping rᾶpe sentence in Sweden
Having evaded his Swedish prison sentence, Ghanaian winger Joseph Amoako has returned home to Ghana.
A false rape charge led to a two-year prison sentence for the 19-year-old, who was playing for Swedish club Helsingborgs IF on loan from Asante Kotoko.
Amoako was cleared after investigations and avoided serving out his European prison sentence.
The winger has returned to Ghana and was seen this week at Kotoko’s practice fields.
In December of 2022, the district court in Helsingborg found Amoako guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl and sentenced him to prison.
This resulted in the termination of the Ghanaian teenager’s contract with Helsingborg IF.
Amoako was released after it was determined that the girl had fabricated her account of the incident in her appeal.
He was recently released from jail the day before yesterday after his appeal was heard. The girl was telling lies, and the case was phony. Amoako has been released after filing an appeal. His representative, Derrick D. Thompson, told Footballghana.com that the girl’s story was completely made up and that his client was set free.
Early in 2022, Amoako transferred to Helsingborg from Kotoko, where he made 9 appearances.
Amoako, his family, and his supporters, who had been hoping for this news, are overjoyed. It is anticipated that the footballer would soon continue his professional career.
