Abiodun Oladapo, 43, was detained by Ogun State Police Command officers for impregnating his 19-year-old daughter.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Command’s spokesperson, announced the news in a statement made on Saturday after Oladapo was detained on March 24, 2023.
He said that the suspect was apprehended in response to a complaint filed at Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters by one Oluwatoyin Idowu, who claimed that her son, Michael Idowu, was wrongfully accused of impregnating the victim.
Idowu said that after carefully probing Michael, she discovered that he was not responsible for the victim’s pregnancy.
According to Oyeyemi, the victim, who is five months pregnant, was invited after the report.
When she arrived at the station, she told the cops that, although Michael Idowu had slept with her in December 2022, it was her father who was responsible for her pregnancy.
She went on to say that her father had been sleeping with her since February 2022 and had threatened to kill her if she told anybody.
When it was revealed that the victim was pregnant, Oladapo persuaded her to lie against Michael Idowu, accusing him of being responsible for the pregnancy.
Following her confession, the Divisional Police Officer Mowe Police Division, Folake Afeniforo, a Superintendent of Police, sent investigators to track down the rogue father.
He was eventually arrested.
During questioning, Oladapo admitted to the crime but blamed it on the devil.
According to Oyeyemi, early investigations found that the suspect, who had been estranged from the victim’s mother for a long time, got custody of the daughter after her mother remarried, and they had been living together since then.
The suspect has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and potential prosecution, according to the Command’s Commissioner, CP Frank Mba.
