Chinagorom Emmanuel, a 24-year-old robbery suspect apprehended in Delta State, has admitted that he resorted to robbery to acquire money to give his late mother a proper burial.
According to reports, the culprit confessed after being apprehended by Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante Group members in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
Emmanuel, from Abia State, is accused of stealing phones and other important stuff in Agbor and neighboring villages.
Speaking to reporters, the suspect said that he is an electrical technician who resorted to stealing in order to offer his mother, whose corpse is now at the morgue, a proper funeral as the first son.
“I enter people’s shops pretending to buy an item. But I aim to steal valuable items like phones. This is my first time in Agbor, and I met my Waterloo in one of my victim’s shops,” he said.
The suspect went on to say that he chose crime since he had no one to turn to for assistance.
Emmanuel further said that he works with a northerner in Asaba who buys stolen phones.
The culprit begged pardon, admitting that his unlawful acts had brought him shame.
In response to the arrest, Comrade Monday Kiyem, Chairman of Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante, said that with their security outfit, it is the end of the road for Emmanuel’s criminality since they do not compromise crime.
He said that offenders who are apprehended would suffer the wrath of the law for causing people grief with their stolen items.
“Emmanuel is in the business of stealing phones. We have found many sim cards and phones in his possession and many of his victims we succeeded in calling complained that their phones were stolen,” Kiyem stated.
“Some of their Agbor victims have come to our office to identify their phones and narrated how Emmanuel came to their shops pretending to buy an item and stole their phones. I will hand Emmanuel over to the police for further investigation and bring his fleeing gang members to book,”
