After being convicted of robbery and receiving a sentence of 17 years in prison, the future of a car washer who is 19 years old is uncertain.
For stabbing a woman he had just robbed and leaving her in critical condition, an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah handed him a sentence of imprisonment. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition.
The convicted individual, Christopher Amolee, entered a plea of guilty to the charge of robbery in accordance with Section 149 of Act 29/60 on the very first day that he appeared in court.
After that, his guilty plea resulted in his conviction.
According to the information gathered, Amolee committed the crime on August 9, 2023, at Sakumono, which is located in the Greater Accra Region. He then fled the scene with the cash belonging to his victim, which was valued at GH976.
Before he was sentenced, Amolee, who appeared to be in control of his emotions in the docket, recounted what had transpired but insisted to the judge that he had no idea what had possessed him to commit the act.
Since he had nowhere else to go, he also prayed for the judge to have mercy on him and for his former owner to forgive him and take him back. He had nowhere else to turn.
He stated in front of the judge that he does not have any family members, including a father or a mother, and that the only person he has is his master, whom he had already angered before he was punished.
The convicted individual, who did not have legal representation when he appeared in court after his conviction, had a lawyer who posed as a friend of the court in order to petition the judge to compromise justice with mercy and give him the least amount of time possible in prison.
It was his contention that, based on the manner in which the convicted individual behaved and the explanation he provided to the court, it appeared as though the theft had gone wrong.
