Yvonne Nelson revealed that Duncan-Williams’ son expressed interest in marrying her, but…
In her memoir titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” the actress discusses her experiences with masculinity and female marginalization in a chapter titled “A Man’s World.” One particular encounter she writes about is her meeting with Joel Duncan-Williams, son of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.
Yvonne first met Joel while on set shooting “The Prince’s” in 2009. Joel, accompanied by a retinue of security guards, approached her with a marriage proposal, stating that he had fallen in love with her. He went the extra mile to prove the seriousness of his love by bringing her lunch on set with his heavy security escort in a mini-convoy.
However, before Yvonne could give him an answer, Joel made an unusual request. He stated that before they could proceed with marriage, she had to go to his father to be prayed for. The purpose of this prayer was to cast out any demons or evil spirits present in Yvonne or her family line.
Yvonne was taken aback by this request and questioned Joel’s assumptions about her and her family. She also pointed out that being the son of a religious leader did not necessarily mean he was guarded by angels or inhabited by the Holy Spirit.
Yvonne ultimately rejected Joel’s proposal, and their friendship ended abruptly after this encounter.
Overall, Yvonne’s encounter with Joel highlights the ways in which traditional notions of masculinity can be oppressive and limit the agency of women. It also shows the importance of questioning societal expectations and assumptions about gender roles and relationships.
