Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars, but Chris Rock refuses to file a police report.

LAPD said in a statement that comedian Chris Rock has declined to press assault charges against actor Will Smith.

According to the LAPD, the incident can only be investigated if Chris Rock makes a report.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported, “LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident involving two persons during the Academy Awards event.”

One person slapped another during the incident. The person who was involved in the incident has declined to submit a police report.

“If the concerned person requests a police report at a later time, the LAPD will be able to finish an investigation.”

Rock had cracked a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith’s sharply cropped hair to Demi Moore’s appearance in the film “G.I. Jane” and suggested she star in a sequel when presenting the best documentary prize with a brief comedy performance.

Smith rushed up to Rock and smacked him before returning to his seat behind Jada and shouted profanities, eliciting awkward stillness and uncertainty in the Dolby Theatre.

Smith exclaimed, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth!” The producers were forced to bleep off several seconds of audio from the aired broadcast in the United States.

Following the event, the Academy stated that it “does not condone violence in any form,” without mentioning the incident specifically.
