The Mankessim Divisional Police Command has detained a 50-year-old woman after she attempted to kidnap a 2-year-old girl.
Kofi Adjei of Adom News says that the suspect, Esi Benyiwah, forced the 2-year-old girl into a margarine bucket after going there on purpose to play with the child.
The culprit, who was not fortunate when some people sounded an alert, was chased, grabbed, and taken to a nearby police station.
Residents admitted that the composure of Esi was what gave her away, aside from the fact that she was unknown in the area. “We tried asking her questions, but she insisted on not talking to us; we intentionally ignored the suspect but were monitoring her movement,” a resident said.
According to the girl’s mother, Janet Ampah, she was tending to her two-month-old child as her two-year-old played nearby. She hurried to investigate after hearing about the incident, only to discover that her daughter was the victim.
The two-year-old girl is being treated at the hospital because she had trouble breathing after being held in the bucket. The suspect is being held by the Divisional Police Command.
