A level 300 Aamusted student is killed as his body catches fire during traditional hall procession customs.
Prosper Owusu, dubbed ‘Arrested,’ was an AAMUSTED level 300 Mathematics student whose unfortunate death occurred as a result of his involvement in a fire incident on Friday, August 25, 2023, during an association event and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Prosper Owusu, a third-year mathematics student at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), died when his body apparently caught fire during a school hall parade.
On Friday, August 25, 2023, Owusu was among some Opoku Ware II Hall students who were allegedly performing certain activities surrounding the hall when the event occurred.
He was injured in the fire and taken to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment, but he died on September 1, 2023.
The university’s administration is looking into the incident.
In the interim, pupils have been warned to avoid activities that may endanger them.
Owusu was reported to be the “chief priest” of the university’s Opoku Ware Hall and was recognized for leading traditional rites for the hall.
A social media video shows Owusu leading rites beside a fire while surrounded by his coworkers.
His clothing caught fire, but efforts to put it out were futile.

On Friday, August 25, 2023, Mr. Prosper Owusu, a third-year Mathematics student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), was among other students of the Opoku Ware II Hall who were reportedly doing various activities in the Hall.
Prosper was hurt and was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment. On September 1, 2023, he was declared deceased.
The circumstances surrounding the event at the Hall are being looked into. Management will provide additional updates.
Meanwhile, pupils have been warned to avoid actions that put them at risk of harm or death.
