Yvonne Nelson, an actress, gave GHC40,000 as awards to three outstanding students who won an essay competition she organized.
The essay contest was organized as part of Yvonne Nelson’s Glaucoma Foundation’s 10-year anniversary celebration.
This competition was open to students aged 10 to 16 who wrote on the theme of ‘Glaucoma: The Silent Blinding Disease.’
All three winners, all of whom were female, earned cash awards, gift vouchers, and other rewards from the competition’s sponsors.
The competition’s winner, as well as the first and second runners-up, received cash prizes of GH5,000, GH3000, and GH2000, respectively.
The winners also received GH15,000, Gh10,000, and GH5000 shopping vouchers from Casa Trasacco, as well as additional prizes from the competition’s sponsors.
A video of the presentation ceremony, which took place at Yvonne Nelson’s pre-school, Just Like Mama Day Care Centre, has surfaced.
During the competition, Yvonne stated that she organized the competition because she saw that people in Ghana had stopped talking about glaucoma, and she wanted to use the children as ambassadors to continue the glaucoma campaign to raise awareness.
