Fire destroyed portions of the renovated Kumasi Central Market, Kejetia, on Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses claim the source of the fire is a Bluetooth speaker that blew near carbide. Personnel from Ghana’s National Fire Service (GNFS) were on the site fighting it.
Social media videos show massive clouds of smoke streaming from the edifice’s roof into the sky.
According to accounts, firefighters had problems putting the fire under control due to the fact that they came with just one truck and were short of personnel
Merchants were observed sprinting helter-skelter as dense smoke billowed from the market’s back entrance.
While the fire burned on, many attempted to save some of their goods.
