Following a clash with the police in Tamale, in the Northern Region, two individuals were allegedly shot in Lamashegu.
This follows the arrest of a young man who was seeking refuge at the community’s palace.
The uproar is alleged to have begun when the young man fled into Lamashe-palace Naa’s to avoid being apprehended by security personnel.
An eyewitness stated that the young man was being pursued because he was driving an unlicensed vehicle.
When he ran into the palace, however, he was allegedly shot by police, culminating in a riot.
According to the youth, the action was disrespectful to traditional authorities, which spurred their objections.
They set fire to car tires and hurled stones at police officers.
According to a JoyNews reporter on the site, one person was transported motionless on a motorcycle.
Another person’s hand was observed dripping with blood, while another person’s leg was injured.
The dispersed youngsters are reuniting at several vantage points, while the authorities have established a camp near the Lamashegu Police Station, complete with water cannons and armed personnel.
A group of troops joined forces with the police to bring the situation under control.
