university introduces new dress code, bans mini skirts, tattoos, piercings and shorts
The administration of Uganda’s Bishop Stuart University (BSU) is introducing a new dress code to’restore’ sanity to the university.
According to a notification published on December 1 by the university’s Dean of Students, Rev Francis Muhangi, the new dress code will take effect on December 2, 2021, for all students.
Sandals, damaged jeans/trousers, shorts, braided/plaited hairstyles, tattoos, piercings, and uncombed hair have all been prohibited for male students.
Mini skirts and dresses, as well as mini pants, damaged jeans/trousers, and tattoos, are prohibited for their female counterparts.
Students who violate the new dress code will be denied entry to the university, according to the dean.
“This is to inform you that as of December 2, 2021, no one with that dress code will be permitted to enter the university premises, lecture rooms, offices, or chapel,” Rev Muhangi stated.
The university’s new dress code requirements, on the other hand, have sparked a backlash on social media from students and Ugandans who feel the new rules are unjust.
“Is this a university or a kindergarten??? Asking” one Chris Dangote tweeted.
“Imagine Bishop Stuart university students waking up to this. It’s finally a self-proclaimed primary school”
“It’s not the dress code that studies. It’s against freedom” Ambrose said
