Togbe Tepreh Hodo IV, the Anfoega Traditional Area’s Paramount Chief, took quick action to ban borborbor dancers from twerking.
He thought it was wrong to depict the ritual dance in such an offensive manner.
There were no problems until a borborbor group from a nearby town was called upon to entertain the crowd at a gathering at which the chief was in attendance.
The Master of Ceremony (MC) signaled the dance group to call it off because of their sensuous dance motion and slightly indecent clothes.
The chief’s intervention was necessitated by several dancers who defied orders and went on performing despite the demands of the MC.
Upon taking the mic from the MC, Togbe Tepreh Hodo IV announced that he was going to breach the protocols of the program and make an announcement.
“We don’t allow this kind of dancing here.” “Never come back and perform this kind of dance in our midst,” he grumbled in the local dialect.
Attendees cheered the Paramount Chief as he made the statement.
He also expressed concern about the ‘inappropriate’ dancing methods used by certain young people in an attempt to change the face of ‘borborbor,’ as well.
