Todd Mitchell Palin (born September 6, 1964) is a commercial fisherman and oil field production operator who served as Alaska’s first gentleman from 2006 to 2009. He is the ex-husband of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who ran as the Republican vice presidential nominee alongside John McCain in 2008.
Palin grew up in Dillingham, Alaska, the daughter of James F. “Jim” and Blanche Palin (née Roberts). Palin is descended from Yup’ik (via a great-grandmother), Dutch, and English ancestors.
Palin graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982, as did his wife and their eldest two children, son Track and daughter Bristol. He took some college courses but did not earn a degree.
Palin was a union member of the United Steelworkers union.
He worked for BP in Alaska’s North Slope oil fields for eighteen years. When his employer became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with his wife’s administration, he took a leave of absence from his job as production supervisor in order to avoid a conflict of interest related to his wife’s position as governor.
Todd returned to BP seven months later because the family needed more money. To avoid a potential conflict of interest, he accepted a non-management position as a production operator this time. On September 18, 2009, he resigned from his job, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
He also works as a commercial salmon fisherman on the Nushugak River in Bristol Bay.

Todd filed for divorce from his wife, Former Alaska Governor, in 2019 after 31 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. In March 2020, their divorce was finalized.
