This is why Mohammed Kudus is ineligible to represent Ghana at the AFCON 2023 (See details)

Ajax star Mohamed Kudus is unable to play for the Black Meteors in the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 22-year-old was born on August 2, 2000, just after the cutoff date of January 1, 2001, or later set by the Confederation of African Football.

It has been questioned whether Ibrahim Tanko’s selection of the Black Stars attacker for this year’s U-23 AFCON, which will take place in Morocco in June, was wise.

Although Kudus wasn’t on Ibrahim Tanko’s roster, he did declare himself amenable to adding other exceptional players for the Olympic qualification competition.

Mohammed Kudus was intended to join the Black Meteors team in order to improve Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the Olympic Games, but he is ineligible, according to Henry Asante Twum, the GFA’s director of communications.

He stated the following on Asempa FM:

“I think we have a very good squad. Likely, we will have the tournament at the end of the season.”

“If we are able to get all our U-23 players who are still available; from Kudus to Kamaldeen, Abdul Salis, Afena-Gyan and all players who play for the Black Stars, [we could qualify for the Olympic Games].”

Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Algeria at Baba Yara Sports Stadium gave the Black Meteors an overall advantage of 2-1 and qualified them for the AFCON.
