‘The System Is Hard, Remember Us In Prayers’ – Armed Robbers Tells VIP Passengers After Robbing Them
Five armed robbers wearing masks and armed with guns and other weapons attacked over forty passengers traveling in a VIP bus with registration number GT 5795-16 from Takoradi in Ghana’s Western Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Ekua, a bus passenger who spoke with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show, said the bus left the Abenbebon Station in Apremdo, Takoradi, around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“Around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022, five armed robbers wielding rifles and other weapons attacked us and stole our money and other belongings.” “They were all wearing masks,” she explained to host Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson.
She went on to say that after the robbery, the armed robbers asked them to remember them in their prayers.
“After the robbery, they asked us to pray for them because it was not their intention to stop vehicles on the highway and rob passengers of their belongings, but the system compelled them to do so,” she continued.
Another young man, whose name is currently unknown, stated that the armed robbers stole his bag, which contained GH8,500.
“I’m a driver, and I was planning on purchasing an engine for my vehicle in Kumasi.” My Mobile Money phone was stolen by another group of armed robbers at Kintampo last week, so I decided to carry the money in my bag, but I was robbed again,” he added.
The passengers are currently stranded at the Anwiankwanta Police Station, where they have filed an official complaint.
Agya Owusu, the driver of the vehicle, told the morning show host that there was nothing he could have done to help the situation.
“When I arrived in Fomena, I noticed a driver warning me with his light that there was a danger on the road.” I became disoriented and had to come to a halt for about five minutes. When I realized there would be no more vehicles, I decided to continue my journey. After a few minutes, I noticed a Sprinter bus on the road with passengers lying on the ground. This is when I realized there were armed robbers on the road. Because they were so close, there was nothing I could do. They assaulted us and stole all of our money. “They took my GH3,400,” said the driver.
