“The police k!lled my son for no reason, he did nothing wrong”- Father of 18 years old boy shot in Tamale speaks
Abdul Hakim Yakubu, an 18-year-old junior high school student at Umar Al Mutar who had just completed his Basic School Certificate Examination (B. E. C. E) this year, was shot dead in Lamashegu, a neighborhood in Ghana’s Northern Region after police clashed with irate youngsters.
During the exchange of bullets, Abdul Hakim Yakubu was hit by a stray bullet and died before being taken to Tamale Teaching Hospital. In a viral video posted on MyJoyOnline, his father stated that his son did nothing wrong but was shot and killed by police. The individual who wept excessively disclosed that Abdul Hakim Yakubu was not even a member of the protesting youth but died as a result of police negligence.
“His mother is in a lot of discomfort; I’ve never seen a woman in so much pain. “If it’s the power they’ve demonstrated, Allah is the owner of absolute power, ” his father cried. According to eyewitnesses, the 18-year-old killed was playing football with his friends when he heard the sound of firearms. As he attempted to flee to safety, a stray bullet landed on him, killing him on the spot.
On Sunday, February 13, 2022, a police patrol squad in Lamashegu battled with a group of angry youth. The incident began when the youth sought explanations about why a Lamashegu driver was shot to death for possessing a Togo automobile registration number. During the clash, one individual was killed by a gunshot, while three others were injured.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has interdicted six police officers involved in the Lamashegu shooting incident. The interdicted officers are General Corporal Samson Kweku Darfour, General Corporal Prosper Mormesimu, General Constable Harrison Twum Danso (Driver), General Constable Nuhu Muntari, Constable Doris Serwa Bonsu, and General Constable Mathew Sah.
