The heartbreaking news traveled like wildfire, leaving signs of injuries on the frail hearts of her lovers and supporters.
When they heard the news, many people couldn’t hide their sadness and anguish. A pall of melancholy hung over the music scene, and to a lesser extent, the entire country.
Social media was flooded with sad words, and fond memories of Ebony Reigns, who was undoubtedly the best musician in the country at the time.
Ebony Reigns died in a car accident in the early hours of February 8, 2018, on the Sunyani-Accra stretch after the car she was driving in with three others hit a pile of sand on the road, veered off, and crashed into a ditch.
According to reports, only the driver survived. Atsu Vondee, the soldier escort, died along with Ebony Reigns’ close friend Franky Kuri, who also perished in the process.
Given that Ebony Reigns was preparing for her 21st birthday when the sad tragedy occurred, it was a solemn moment of reflection and deeper reconsideration.
Ebony Reigns was laid to rest in March 2018, and a formal funeral was held to allow everyone to pay their respects to the queen.
Musicians, celebrities, and regular Ghanaians flocked to the funeral grounds, where they witnessed her lying in state and returned with heavy tears in their eyes.
“Oh Ebony, why did you leave us so soon?” Many moaned, their hearts aching and their handkerchiefs saturated in tears.
After 4 years, we still remember Ebony Reigns, especially the music-loving Ghanaians who understood and appreciated her individual talents, which she displayed energetically in her music and spectacularly on stage.
At the time of her death, Ebony Reigns was a household name. Songs like “Maame Hwe” and “Hustle” traveled well beyond Ghana’s borders, generating ripples all over the world.
Many aspired to succeed her as the Queen of Dancehall after her death. Indeed, in the aftermath of her death, focus switched to Wendy Shay, whom her record label had consciously and unconsciously chosen as her successor.
Wendy Shay’s career skyrocketed as a result of the attention, and she was poised for music glory. Many people who resembled Ebony Reigns in appearance and personality decided to succeed her.
Despite the efforts of various female musicians, Ghana has yet to find a successor for Ebony Reigns after four years. Ebony Reigns’ talent is unparalleled and transcends fraud and imitation.
Ebony Reigns’ father, Mr. Opoku Kwarteng, has not recovered from his daughter’s death after four years. He has insisted that justice will be served and that her daughter’s ghost will seek vengeance on her killers.
After four years, Ebony Reigns’ family paid a visit to her final resting place to commemorate her.
May her soul rest in peace for the time being.
