Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), eventually confronted the disciplinary committee amid claims that some people sought to remove him from his job.
Dr. Dampare had previously decided to recuse himself from the disciplinary proceedings.
He stated that the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council will decide the fates of COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi.
The Police Service arrested the three top police officials on Thursday, September 7, but the decision was later reversed.
In a statement dated September 7, the police stated that the decision to suspend the interdiction of the three police officers was made to ensure that the ongoing investigation by Parliament was not jeopardized.
COP Mensah, Superintendent Asare, and Superintendent Gyebi have all testified before the Parliamentary Committee investigating the leaked recording.
COP Mensah accused the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, of mismanaging the Police Service during his appearance before the legislative committee.
He asserted that the IGP’s leadership had resulted in a drop in police personnel morale.
When asked about the allegations against him, IGP Dampare stated that they were all clear lies devoid of evidence.
Dampare went on to explain how the claims have harmed him and his family, particularly his wife and children.
He went on to say that COP Boakye was like a brother to him and that he was disappointed to hear all of the accusations levied against him.
