According to reports reaching us, a teacher in the Central Region’s Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality has allegedly impregnated three girls from his school.
This was discovered during a session hosted by the Ghana Education Service’s Counselling and Guidance Centre in Kwadaso, Ashanti Region, to train school-based counsellors on the need to provide psychosocial assistance to students.
The condition, according to Dr. Kyeremeh Tawiah Dabone, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast Counselling Centre, is jeopardizing the future chances of young females in the municipality.
He went on to say that a formal complaint had been filed against the teacher, and that proper punishment would be imposed.
Seven additional girls in the municipality have been impregnated by close relatives.
According to Dr. Kyeremeh, the COVID-19 restrictions subjected the youngsters to a variety of atypical forms of abuse, resulting in psychological repercussions.
According to Stephen Asare Brew, the Kwadaso Municipal Educational Coordinator of the GES Counsellor and Guidance section, these abuses have had a physiological impact on the youngsters, resulting in suicide in some of them.
He went on to say that the youngsters who have been exposed to some of these crimes and are suffering psychologically want immediate help.
Mr. Brew stated that sexual abuse by teachers is against the GES staff’s code of ethics and that GES is committed to disciplining any teacher who engages in the practice.
He explained that numerous pupils who have been sexually abused by teachers do not report the abuse to the relevant authorities, making it impossible to sanction the teachers.
