Police in Jinja, Uganda, have arrested a pastor and his wife for the alleged ritual murder of Trinity Nakisuyi Nabirye Zabeela, a 4-year-old girl.
On Sunday, December 5, Prophet Joseph Sserubiri and Felista Namaganda of Deliverance and Healing Ministries in Kakira Market Zone, Kakira Town Council, Jinja, were arrested and admitted to killing the child in order to establish a powerful church.
According to the Uganda Police Force, Nabirye went missing on September 30, 2021, from her father, Mr Mulodi John’s, home in the same zone.
SD Ref. 49/01/10/2021 was used to file a case of disappearance at Kakira Central Police Station.
Since then, the girl’s parents and the police have gone to various radio stations in Jinja and Iganga towns in an attempt to recover the child, but to no avail.
The case was about to go cold until, at the residents’ request, police declared the couple persons of interest in their investigation.
The Kira region police spokesman, James Mubi, confirmed the development and stated that they tracked the prophet’s mobile phone numbers, which led to the duo’s arrest.
“Following extensive interrogation, the accused admitted to murdering the child in the church with the intent of establishing a powerful deliverance church in Kakira.” “They’re leading police to where they buried the body,” Mr Mubi said.
The couple later led detectives to Wanyange Village on Lake Victoria’s shores, where Nabirye’s skull was discovered.
Detectives were also led to a sugarcane plantation in Kakira, where her decomposed body was discovered.
Pastor Serubiri and his wife converted a garage rented from John Mulodi’s parents into a church.
