SAD; Woman D!es after Petrol Tanker Swerved off-road and Landed On Her
On Friday, a woman was killed when a petrol truck swerved off the road and landed on her.
According to Teso North sub-county police chief David Muange, the 5 a.m. event occurred when a bus traveling from Nairobi to Kampala, Uganda, halted at the Koteko roadblock near Kocholya to enable passengers to descend and relieve themselves.
The fuel truck is believed to have driven off the road to avoid hitting the halted Grand Company bus from behind.
At the time of the occurrence, the woman who died was relieving herself by the wayside.
The bus driver, who had also gotten down from the car to make a quick phone call, was struck by the tanker but escaped with minor injuries.
He was treated at the Kocholya Level Four Hospital and permitted to continue his journey to Uganda.
Following the incident, his co-driver took over the steering wheel.
The truck driver killed the woman on the spot.
Her body was stuck beneath the petroleum tanker until 2:56 p.m., when a crane eventually lifted the tanker, allowing the Ugandan lady’s body to be removed.
Officers from Malaba and Amagoro police stations camped out at the location until the corpse was removed, headed by Malaba OCS George Ouka.
By the time of writing this article, the cops were still on the site, preventing members of the public from siphoning the diesel fuel that remained in the fuel truck.
According to witnesses, the dead was on her way from Kenya to Mbale, Uganda, when she died.
There was a solemn atmosphere at the site as members of the public sought to catch a glimpse of the body while police pulled the lady’s remains from beneath the petrol tanker.
The collision occurred on the Malaba-Bungoma route, some nine kilometers from the Malaba border.
“We have managed to remove the body.” “It was challenging because the tanker was full of fuel making the process of removing the body hard,” Muange said.
He explained that the crew on the site had to empty the petrol tanker before lifting the debris of the fuel transporter to ease the retrieval of the corpse.
The deceased’s remains were brought to the Kochoya Level Four Hospital Mortuary to await transit to Uganda.
